I'm going to try a temporary measure of upgrading the server to avoid these performance issues. I'm doing this to try to identify whether the problem is poor performance of the host or some sort of performance problem with my configuration. So we'll be down for about a half hour while it upgrades.

Hi everyone, BLF will be offline for about 2 hours until aproximately 19:00 GMT while I migrate the server to a different datacenter. There will be no configuration change and the migration should be seamless. But it will take several hours. You may need to close and re-open your browser and/or flush your DNS cache to get the new IP address.

Hi everyone, I'm currently migrating the BLF database to a new server. It's not quite ready yet.

The migration is complete and the site is now online. You'll probably see frequent brief periods of downtime as I continue to tweak settings and fix bugs.

You will need to refresh your DNS information to get on the new server. It may take up to 24 hours for the new server address to reach everyone across the globe.

The server still won't boot and I can't access any of the consoles to see what's wrong either. No news yet from the host. They're obviously working with a skeleton crew on Sunday afternoon and aren't handling this promptly. Looks like I'll be searching for a new host again as soon as I have access to the server to get the data off it.

Three hour outage

Hi, I found the site offline after about three hours. I'm currently trying to investigate the cause of the outage.

Another outage caused by a mistake at the host

You’re probably tired of apologies by now, but at any rate this is to let you know that there was some sort of an automated glitch at the host related to the mistaken suspension of my account yesterday. I sincerely hope this will be the last time, as they assured me that the suspension glitch is now “cleared” out of the automated system.

I will not defend the host’s terrible handling of this issue. They completely bungled the whole deal. First of all, we’re not sending spam and we never have. Instead of disabling the entire site without prior warning, they could have simply asked me for my information without shutting the site down. Or at worst, they could have simply blocked all outgoing mail from the server until they get the necessary compliance information. What a nightmare. Sorry for the downtime, and thanks for sticking around!

It's not my fault this time. Thanks to our friends, the spammers, all webhosts are forced to be ridiculously cautious about all customers who send emails from their servers. Since BLF sends a LOT of notification emails, they are currently asking me to verify some personal information just to make sure everything is legit.

We're back online now after a few hours of downtime. Not exactly sure what happened, and unfortunately I'll be away from my computer all day today. Hope to look into it more tonight. Sorry about that!

Sigh... You learn something new every day. The database server by default creates *huge* transaction log files that completely filled the disk. The logs are disabled now. Sorry about that!
